In 1955, the Jones brothers sold
Audley Farm to James F. Edwards, a manufacturer and racetrack owner. On May
20, 1964, Audley Farm made history when its horses won eight races at six
racetracks. Edwards led all owners in races won in 1971, 1972, and 1973.
Audley horses today are still running under Edwards' colors - purple with a
lavender sash.
In 1978, Hubertus
Liebrecht, an ardent Thoroughbred breeder from Germany,
was touring the United
States in search of broodmares for his
stables. He visited Audley and was so impressed with the facilities that he
purchased the farm from Edwards. It was Mr. Liebrecht's idea to exchange
top German bloodlines with sound and speedy American pedigrees.
Mr. Liebrecht's
international scope in the selection of quality bloodlines for breeding
race horses brought him great success in both Germany
and the United States.
Although he died in 1991, his commitment to American Thoroughbred breeding
was firmly established. His extended family under the direction of Erich
von Baumbach Jr. continues the tradition of Audley with the emphasis on
commercial breeding.
Audley Farm (900 acres) is surrounded by Morgan Springs Farm (680 acres to the east) and Monterey Farm (720 acres to the west), which together make up the 2300 acres. After Mr. Liebrecht bought Audley Farm in 1978 he purchased Morgan Springs Farm in 1982 and Monterey Farm in 1989. Both farms were leased out through 2000. After that lease expired both farms were put back in the control of Audley Farm Management and two new business operations were started. These two operations are Hay Production for the horse and cattle industry and a Cattle Operation with registered Aberdeen Angus. The herd is now up to 95 bred heifers/cows.
In 2008 Audley Farm was 30 years in the Ownership of the German Family.
